Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found many other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for information.
An important representative said the attack left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
